nrc•next Stays at Home for the Nederlands Fotomuseum |
|
In their section “5 reasons to stay at home” nrc•next published an article about the new web exposition tool that Pictura developed for the Nederlands Fotomuseum:
1 LOOK Nederlands Fotomuseum www.nederlandsfotomuseum.nl, click on ‘ontdekken’ and then on ‘webtentoonstellingen’. (This option is not available on the English version of the site.)
The archive of the Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam holds three million negatives and a lot of photographic slides from amateur and professional photographers. You no longer have to leave your house to browse these. Quite a number of these photographs has been digitized and made available on the site through an ‘image bank’. You can search them for a theme, photographer, period or place name. Even more fun: you can make your own web exhibition. Pick a theme from Dutch history or culture that you know a lot about and go to work. Select photo’s, write captivating descriptions and send your proposal to the museum. You will not be paid for your work. The fun of it is that your visual story, accompanied by your motivation, can be viewed by enthousiasts. There are at present only four series online, all done by employees. Be inspired by their themes such as ‘dappere trappers’ (brave peddlers), about the history of cycling. The art is to create an enticing combination of image and text, both historically sound and amusing. (nrc•next | May 28th 2008) |
