Glasmuseum Closed... but Still Open

For years the Nationaal Glasmuseum Leerdam has been working towards this goal, a fusion with the Glas Centrum Leerdam and continuing as one under the name Stichting Glas. And at the same time an ambitious renovation and rebuilding of Huize Cochius, the former villa of the famous director of the Glasfabriek Leerdam, where the museum is now situated. In the fall of 2008 the site will see its festive reopening but until then the Glasmuseum will be closed… and still open!

Because a while ago Pictura, in cooperation with the ICN, photographed the Glasmuseum’s enormous collection of glass object. We also scanned the designs, negatives and catalogues of the Glasfabriek Leerdam. All images were then placed in the online management environment Memorix and unlocked through the Glasmuseum website.

This is how, in 2008, despite the radical rebuilding, a large part of the unique collection is still accessible: online at www.nationaalglasmuseum.nl.
