Within 6 week, Pictura digitized 30,000 slides for the University of Gent. The slide projectors have done their job and can now be stored away. From now on the images can be presented in college using PowerPoint. It is now easy to use the didactic images in digital courses.
At the University many faculties such as Linguistics, Philosophy and even Pediatrics slides are traditionally used to support the colleges. Having to organize the accompanying multitude of slide trays is a difficult and time consuming job. Gent decided to have the slides banned to storage and have everything digitized. This included all the data that was written on the slide frames. Because the slides are used actively during the academic year, the job had to be done during the summer holidays. Pictura cleaned and digitized the slides. We checked the quality of the images and made doubly sure no slides were forgotten. The metadata on the slide frames was copied to an Excel sheet which was linked to the barcode stickers we placed on each frame. The University of Gent now possesses 30,000 digital top quality images with matching description. All set for the new academic year.
