Maps from Three Generations of Surveyors

Affiche expositie 'West-Brabant à la carte' In the 18th and 19th century, the surveyors family Adan from Western Brabant surveyed the area from Willemstad to Rucphen, the so-called ‘Brabant Ridge’. The Adan’s work is the subject of the exposition ‘Western Brabant à la carte, three generations of Adan surveyors’, a double exposition from the 15th of December 2007 until the 15th of June 2008 in the Markiezenhof in Bergen op Zoom and Museum Tongerlohuys in Roosendaal. All these beautiful maps, which provide a wealth of information about the history of the region, can also be enjoyed by visiting the Markiezenhof image bank.

The image bank was created by Pictura, which digitized the collection and designed the infrastructure for www.markiezenhof.nl.  The collection was scanned in very high resolution – with a scanning backboard on a technical camera – to ensure an optimal result.

Voorkant Drie generaties AdanA number of scans of the impressive Adan maps also appears in the richly illustrated 'Drie generaties Adan' (‘Three generations of Adan’) by Martin Storms, that was published at the exposition.
