State Archives Belgium combine EAD with ABS Archeion
The State Archives in Belgium include the National Archives in Brussels and 19 State Archives in the provinces. This renowned institute with over 200 kilometers of archive and 25 kilometers of books entrusted Pictura with the development of her new website in four languages with EAD access.

Aside from an extensive overview of the services which the State Archives provide, the website also allows access to their archive components.

The State Archives made a retroconversion from several digital files to a limited EAD document. This document contains information about the access sections, the description of the various archive components and their optional analysis.

The system that Pictura developed contacts ABS Archeion ‘live’ to fill in the additional management information such as the consultability of file elements, order numbers and archive group information. The system transforms the data to a correct EAD file and saves it in a database. The database is now optimized to be unlocked on the State Archives website.

There is also room to unlock the extensive amount of closer analyses, such as notarial acts and documents from the civil registers. This allows visitors to search for people by name and see the complete context of the corresponding archive group.
