The Nederlands Fotomuseum holds a treasure trove of Dutch photography. The climate controlled depots of the museum hold 129 archives. Together they are good for three million negatives and a large amount of photographic slides, prints and documents about the lives and works of Dutch photographers.

Nosing around from your home
The archives of the Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam have three million negatives and a large amount of photographic slides from amateur and professional photographers. You no longer have to leave your house to see these images. A substantial amount of photographs has been digitized by Pictura and can be viewed with the image bank. Even more fun: You can make your own web exhibit. Choose a topic from Dutch history or culture that you are knowledgeable about and go to work. Select photographs, write fetching captions and send your exhibit to the museum. The fun part is of course that your exhibit, your story, is shown to other enthusiasts. Let yourself be inspired by themes such as ‘brave peddlers’ about the history of bicycling. The art is in creating a tantalizing combination of image and text that is both historically valid and entertaining.

Originals
Every original is unique and demands a separate approach. After all, photographs, building plans and registers of baptisms are very different from one another. The goal, therefore, is to create the best possible process for a safe and economic way to digitize all originals.

Pictura can take inventory of all kinds of originals and do a material analysis, both on location. This creates an understanding of how and at what cost a process can best be set up. Pictura considers it an honor when it is allowed to support an institute such as the Nederlands Fotomuseum by scanning large amounts of high quality negatives.
