Pictura uses an air conditioned van that has been enhanced with a special elevator to guarantee horizontal transportation and an interior adapted to the transportation of originals. We have our own chauffeur to handle the transportation of originals. Pictura has formulated quite a large number of rules concerning transportation. For instance, the car shall never be left unattended, the tank will be filled before each trip and in case of car trouble, Pictura is warned immediately to provide assistance.

The originals are packaged in the client’s depot in isolated containers and unpacked in our own depot after transportation. The contents of the containers are exposed to only minimal temperature and humidity fluctuations.

The containers, also known as flight cases, can be easily connected to eachother and transported as a single whole. The flight cases were first used for the entire card collection of the Flehite museum in Amersfoort. These 5000 cards have been digitized by Pictura in true size at 300 dpi. We used 6 flight cases for the entire project. Every week 2 or 3 transports of 200 cards were made to minimize the risks.

During transport and storage in our depot, all the originals are insured through our all-risk museum insurance up to an amount of € 1,200,000.-.
