Search Engine Optimization

Pictura is particularly suited to help you to make sure that your website can be found more easily by the public. We offer several options for you to increase the number of visitors to your site.

Visitor Numbers
A website's right to exist is determined by its findability. No matter how well a site is built or how good it looks, if no one visits it then it might as well not have been built. But how can you determine whether the public does not want to visit your or is just unable to find it? This is why you want your site to be as easy to locate as possible. Pictura can help you with advice. A couple of points of attention can be found in this article.

Clear Page Structure
Web pages are expected to conform to a certain semantic structure. This structure is a collection of conventions created to make websites as transparent as possible. Transparent for the visitors, but also for search engines such as Google. Because Pictura builds websites with clear page structures, we help you improve your findability. The clearer the semantic page structure is, the better Google can distinguish between individual pages and the bigger the chance such pages are indexed by Google.

Google Sitemaps
It is difficult for Google to index the current databases of Memorix Image Bank and Genealogy. That is a pity, because those databases contain just that information that people want to find. Google indexes 'permanent' web pages. When a query delivers a result and this result is shown on a page on your monitor, this is merely a temporary page. The page will disappear once you are finished with it and will not remain available for Google to index.

There is a tool, however, that helps to remedy this: Google Sitemaps. A sitemap is in fact little more than a list of information from a database, structured in such a way that it is recognized by Google. This means that Google Sitemaps creates a list in which all query results can be found as if they were 'permanent' web pages.

However, Google is very selective when indexing. If web pages - and in this case the items from the sitemap - look too much alike, they are not all indexed separately and thus cannot all be found. It is essential therefore, that these temporary web pages from the query results all contain unique content. This way the items that replace the web pages in the sitemap are also considered as unique by Google. Pictura can help you activate and calibrate Google Sitemaps to help you enhance the findability of the information in your databases.

Transparent Permalinks
Images from your database or new articles on your site can be found through a web link. When a visitor clicks on such a link he is transported to the location of the article. Sometimes more than one link may be created pointing to the same location. This is not interesting for visitors, but it is for you. Search engines count the amount of times people reach a certain page through a link. The higher the number, the more relevant the page apparently is and the higher up it appears in the search results. Unfortunately multiple links to the same page are not added. To obtain a higher position in the search results, it is therefore useful to replace these created backlinks with a single permanent link, called a permalink. We can make sure that Google will not index all the different links on your site, but a list of permalinks for your site that can be placed in Google Sitemaps.
