Beautiful Photographs by Kors van Bennekom

For his seventy-fifth birthday, Foam_Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam presents a retrospective of Kors van Bennekom’s work. On the 10th of July 2008 the exhibition, called ‘Kors’ choice, photo’s from Kors van Bennekom’, was opened by Job Cohen.

For this exhibition, the photographer has made a selection from his considerable oeuvre. The photos give a unique view of Amsterdam and her citizens. Kors photographed the cultural life in the capital and ordinary, hard working people. Photographs of his family provide a look into his private life.
Part of the work of Kors van Bennekom is now visible on the new website.

The new site of Kors van Bennekom

From the archive, that encompasses some 700,000 negatives, around 13,500 images have been selected. The photographs that Kors has selected will be digitized by Pictura and placed on the new site. Digitizing of the negatives from the enormous archive is still going on, which is why the site is still developing. According to schedule, the site will be delivered in January of 2009.

The images are divided into three main themes: culture, journalism and family. By clicking on the themes, photographs with subjects such as professions, animals and youth become visible. The design and structure of the site make it tranquil and clear and does the beautiful photos justice.

What makes the website unique is the option to view the contact sheets. From each contact sheet, the photographer selected a single negative to develop. The other photographs, those the photographer did not select, are also very much worth the look.

Besides digitizing the photographs and designing the site, Pictura also advised on the project and installed the collection management tool, Memorix. Pictura is proud to present this project.
