Might and Mysticism in Egmond |
|
Early October, The Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar opened the exhibition Might & Mysticism – Egmond in the Middle Ages. The exhibition, which will continue until April next year, is part of the nationwide campaign Verleden van Nederland (The Dutch Past).
Might & Mysticism is an exhibition about the castle – the might of Egmond – and the abbey – the mysticism of Egmond. The exhibition tells of the medieval Egmond from 726, when the Egmonden were Christianized by the monk Adalbertus, until 1573, when Geuzen leader Diederik of Sonoy who defeated the Spanish that besieged Alkmaar but who also destroyed the castle and abbey of Egmond.
There is an elaborate story on the website of the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar about the period of the exhibition, with links to the sister exhibitions and an overview of the activities that have been organized as part of the exhibition. The website of the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar was made by Pictura. One of the sections of the website is the image bank, an application in which images can be managed, described and displayed. It is possible to use the application internally or, as the Stedelijk Museum has done, as a display case for your most beautiful pieces.
