Most prestigious award
Every year World Press Photo organizes the biggest and most prestigious photography contest in the world. 2010 saw the fifty-fourth edition: Images of sorrow in Third World countries, rearing horses, amazing sports moments and the economic crisis. Each year World Press Photo chooses the best press photograph of the previous year. The World Press Photo award is the most important award for press photographers.

Digitization
Over the years, World Press Photo has composed an impressive collection of photographs. Nowadays the competition is mostly between digital files, but in the past only negatives and positives were entered. These old photographs are being digitized by Pictura for the World Press Photo archive. The previous prize winners are scanned year by year, using a one-for-one quality control to ensure perfect picture quality.
