Web Based

All the applications that have been developed by Pictura are web based. To manage your collection you need nothing but a computer with internet access and a password. This means that you can go to work from any location (office or home) and at any moment (during office hours or in the weekends). Our software is well suited to, for instance, volunteers entering a large amount of metadata in a short period of time.

Software Based on Open Source

Pictura wishes to let her clients pay only for services rendered. This is why we have chosen to develop our applications based on open source software. Once you buy our collection management system Memorix, you will not need to pay for an additional license for a database management system such as Microsoft SQL Server. We use the open source system MySQL.

Except for the fact that open source software is free, it has the added advantage of a large community of programmers that continuously work to improve it. So if a bug or safety leak were to turn up in operating system Linux, this would be spotted immediately. An update would appear which our system administrator would be able to install.

Work based on open source software is growing in popularity. More and more often, the national and European governments demand that calls for bids include this type of software.
